A few words from our CEO

On behalf of Ayrshire Cancer Support, I would like to thank everyone who has supported us, and who continues to support us, in providing free cancer support services to our local communities – your efforts and donations make a huge difference every single day.

I would also like to take this opportunity to inform you, that after a great deal of thought, I have made the difficult decision to retire later this year, to allow me to spend some much-needed time with my family and friends.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our new cancer support centre in Ayr is now open!

Our Make it Happen campaign began back in 2020, when it became evident there was a need for a dedicated cancer support centre in Ayr, offering the same facilities as the charity’s Kilmarnock Centre, and more.

Without any free specialist services for children and young people affected by cancer in the area, we knew we needed to fill this gap.

Not long after my son’s 21st birthday, in October of 2020, he was diagnosed with a Stage 2 brain tumour. We remained hopeful and by the December, Ruari had surgery to remove the tumour, and a few months later started his treatment.

Unfortunately, due to where the tumour was located, they were not able to remove it all, but we remained positive and Ruari recovered amazingly. He had speech therapy to help him recover, and he slowly started improving, even getting back to his work at the beginning of 2022.

Support Services

Our Care Services Team continues to deliver our impactful services to the people that need us, and following the completion of our previous strategy, we undertook some scoping to plan how we hope to develop services between now and 2030.

We had engagement events and surveyed the people that use our services to collect feedback, and have developed our action plan to respond to this. We’re delighted to be able to show you our new 2025-2030 strategy.
