On World Cancer Day (4th February) Ayrshire’s leading cancer charity, Ayrshire Cancer Support were presented with a cheque for £18,500 by Ayr Racecourse and Western House. The funds were raised by staff and customers of Ayr Racecourse and Western House and have been pledged to support the charity’s new fundraising drive, #Home4Cancer, to create a bright and welcoming new cancer centre in Ayr, which offers people affected by cancer a range of free cancer specific services to help them cope with a cancer diagnosis.

David Brown, Managing Director of Ayr Racecourse said, "We are delighted to be able to kick off Ayrshire Cancer Support’s drive to create a new cancer centre. We have been working to raise funds for the charity in 2018 and will continue to do so in 2019. With one in two people now being diagnosed with cancer – we were keen to support a charity that works locally on behalf of the people across Ayrshire. We are looking forward to helping raise awareness of the work they do throughout the course of 2019."

Laura Brown, Income Manager at Ayrshire Cancer Support said, "The Racecourse have really pulled out all the stops and have been very active in helping to raise funds for us in 2018. Their staff have been involved in events like the Kilt Walk and they have also provided great opportunities for us to attend their hugely popular Race Days. It’s great to see that our plans for a new cancer centre to replace our existing one are supported by local business and that the Racecourse are so quick off the mark to give back to the local community. We can’t thank the racegoers, customers and staff enough."
