John Beck, Chief Executive of Ayrshire Cancer Support said “We are extremely grateful to Scottish Event Management for organising this event on our behalf and also to all the organisations taking part. Our first show which was held in Ayr 2 years ago was a great success and we hope this one will be every bit as entertaining. With the devastating loss of our Mauchline shop to fire recently we need to raise even more funds for our work and we hope the ladies of Ayrshire will turn out to support us on the evening. All revenue raised will be used in Ayrshire for the benefit of cancer patients and their families.

CHARITY CONCERT
Kilmarnock Aeolian Male Voice Choir have invited the Shrewsbury Police Choir to join with them in a concert of fine music and song. The police were delighted to accept the invitation but insisted that any proceeds go to local charities. The Aeolian boys jumped at the opportunity to nominate Woodstock School and Ayrshire Cancer Support as benefactors.

Alasdair Smith, the choir secretary said, “Ayrshire people are aware of the superb services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support and when we read in the Standard that their charity shop in Mauchline had been burnt down recently the choir had no hesitation in nominating them to receive part of the proceeds. Woodstock also does a wonderful job within our community by caring for children less fortunate than most and on a limited budget. Our counterparts in Shrewsbury are delighted with our choice of charities and we would ask Ayrshire people to come along and enjoy a musical evening and support those two good causes”

The event takes place on Saturday 10th May in the Henderson Church, Kilmarnock at 7.30pm. Tickets priced at £5.00 are available from Ayrshire Cancer Support on 01563 538008 or Alasdair Smith on 01563 542861 or any member of the choir.

Homecoming Year 2009 (www.homecoming-scotland.com)
We are already planning for the Homecoming Year and the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert
Burns with some very interesting initiatives planned.

A stunning 2009 calendar has been produced which will delight friends and family both near and
far with its beautiful views of Ayrshire, all photos relate to places in Ayrshire associated with the
Bard and include Tam O’Shanter Inn, Burns Cottage, Auld Brig o’Doon, Glen Afton and many more.
Each photograph is accompanied by an appropriate line of verse.
Printed on high-quality 300gsm board the photographs can be detached and used as postcards.
The front cover of the calendar shows an amazing montage of the various locations in the calendar.

We will also produce a limited edition of 250 bottles of our 18yr old Speyside malt whisky.
Each bottle will be individually numbered and will be contained in a beautifully inscribed wooden
presentation box. We are experiencing interest in our whisky already and bottles will be supplied on
a first come first serve basis. Each bottle will cost £59.95 plus £10 postage and packing.
We expect demand for this very special item will outstrip supply and if you would like to place an
advance order call John at 01563 538008 or email to beckj@ayrshirecs.org.
Estimated delivery date May,08.

WE ARE BRANCHING OUT
Ayrshire Cancer Support is embarking on an ambitious project to help create a natural Scottish woodland in Ayrshire, returning the land to way it was many years ago, and we are giving everyone the chance to be part of the project by purchasing their own tree. Revenue raised from this project by us will be used for the benefit of cancer patients and their families.
We are offering individuals, schools and companies the opportunity to plant a tree to celebrate any event or occasion, it could be a birth, wedding anniversary, a project to help our environment or as a unique and personal gift to a loved one, the list is endless.
Beside each dedicated tree there will be a plaque with the purchaser’s personal message engraved on it, they will also receive a certificate showing the message and a map showing the location of the tree.
The site of the woodland has been created at Craig’s Farm Estate near New Cumnock. The Afton Water flows through this secluded valley which lies on the Burns trail only about a mile from the beautiful Burns Cairn established by New Cumnock Burns Club. There is a beautiful picnic area situated near the Cairn beside the Afton Water, where you can take a break and experience the tranquillity of the area.
Overlooking the planting area is the rocky outcrop called ‘Castle William’ where it is reputed that William Wallace had a residence. Only tree species which have historically been on the land will be planted and will include Scots Pine, Silver Birch, Willow and Rowan.
John Beck said ‘ Following on from the success of collecting mobile telephones for re-cycling we are pleased once again to involved in a project which will help our precious Ayrshire environment and at the same raise funds for our invaluable work. Trees are a vital element in the fight against global warming and this type of natural Scottish woodland will encourage a great variety of wildlife to the area. Trees are a lasting legacy that will live on for future generations and every tree planted will be a personal contribution to a better tomorrow. Purchasing a tree to mark a family event or occasion will be a truly unique gift, it is also an ideal opportunity for groups of friends, work colleagues, schoolchildren and students to club together to support our work.

CREATE YOUR OWN ONLINE FUNDRAISING PAGE
www.justgiving.com

You can now create your very own online fundraising page when raising money for us – and it only takes about 5 minutes to complete.
Go to the above website, choose an event you want to do (run, walk etc.) and register for a Justgiving account. Give your page a title, write a message and add a photo.
You can then email the address of your page to all your family, friends, work/school colleagues, here or abroad, and start collecting donations online.
Money donated is transferred directly into our bank account so you don’t have to chase any cash or cheques. Justgiving will also claim any relevant Gift Aid from the money collected.
Justgiving will charge a small transaction fee of the revenue collected.
You can also add your fundraising page to your FACEBOOK profile and spread the word about any and all fundraising for your charity around your own online network not to mention the Facebook network of 25 million users worldwide.
(For our mature readers – FACEBOOK is an immensely popular networking website which allows users to create their own applications on its website – in other words it is in the domain of our younger readers.)

20p WOULD HELP US.
20p a day for one month means £6.00 and this is our average cost of taking a patient from Ayrshire to a Glasgow hospital for treatment

A regular gift to Ayrshire Cancer Support would enable our volunteer drivers to continue making
between 600 and 1,000 patient transport journeys
EVERY MONTH!

If you think you would like to help us by donating £2.00, £6.00 or any other amount you can afford
please contact us and we will do the rest.
